The 3D GIS model of the castle of Mussomeli was created within a European research project PON-NEPTIS, for the enhancement and use of Cultural Heritage through
the use and experimentation of new technologies in the field of geomatics. The project was developed within the GISLab, as part of a collaboration between the University of Palermo and
the ICAR-CNR (National Research Council of Italy) institute of Palermo. The castle of Mussomeli is one of the main examples of medieval defensive architecture in Sicily, and the construction of a 3D GIS
has allowed to be able to describe and better represent the internal and external environments of the monumental complex, albeit through quick survey and restitution procedures.
The model, in fact, has been developed within a model
geo-referenced Globe giving the opportunity to explore the castle and the area surrounding it in three dimensions.
