THE ROMAN THEATER OF CARTHAGE
Disegno di H. Wirsing (1925): Ricostruzione edificio scenico del teatro di Segesta

Scena

The frons scenae of the Carthage theater consisted in three stories, with a height corresponding to that of the auditorium (about 25 meters), and it appeared originally in the form of three semicircular exedras "indented". The proscaenium was characterized, however, by the alternation of semi-circular and rectangular niches, the central semicircular niche was slightly larger than the others, and the rectangular niche located at each end contained a stairway leading to the stage. Under the stage of the theater the remains of some tanks have been found that, most likely, contained water and were used during aquatic shows, especially popular in old ages.
